Job Description
Grand Canyon University’s Arena Operations department is seeking a part-time Event Safety Supervisor. This position conducts patrol of facility or campus grounds used in campus events to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, employees, guests, visitors, event attendees and/or members of the public, and ensures compliance with University policies, and Public Safety policy.
Responsibilities:
Ability to perform all the essential duties and responsibilities of the Event Security Specialist.
Collaborate with events stakeholders to fulfill each events specific security requirements.
Work closely with the designated event senior manager during events to ensure all security measures are completed.
Create staffing models with the Event Safety and Security Manager which includes the use of student workers, Event Security Specialists, Public Safety staff, within budgetary allowances and requirements.
During events, the Event Security Supervisor has oversight and supervisory responsibilities for the part-time Event Security staff.
Attend security meetings of show production staff and artist management teams to fulfill special requirements.
Ability to remain flexible due to fluctuating staffing needs and priorities which are often based on individual event requirements.
In the case of an emergency follow and implement the Mass Evacuation, Shelter-In-Place and Lockdown Plan.
Prepare post-event recaps and invoices which allow for the reimbursement of security services provided.
Coordinate relevant training, with Public Safety training unit, to staff members so they are aware of industry standards.
Investigate employee related matters, such as complaints and violations of policy.
Assist in the recruitment and hiring of part time event security specialists.
Other duties as assigned by Event Safety and Security Manager.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or the equivalent.
Minimum 3 years’ work experience required; prefer work experience with public assembly/crowd control. One year minimum experience in supervisory capacity required
CPR and first aid certified or the ability to obtain certification within 3 months.
Demonstrated ability to lead others during work schedule by presence, behaviors and attitude.
Good judgment, problem solving and common sense.
Good communications skills with a good command of the English language. An ability to communicate in a non-English language is helpful but not required.
Willingness to follow instructions and directions specifically especially in emergency situations.
Dedicated and committed to assisting others with ability to get along with diverse personalities and populations.
Ability to operate communications equipment such as 2-way radios and cell phones.
Cooperative, collaborative and inclusive team player.
Professional appearance and demeanor with ability to interact positively with staff, guests, visitors and members of the public.
Ability to manage crowds and maintain order.
Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position and daily responsibilities. Must have physical stamina to chase on foot, apprehend, subdue and restrain.
Must be willing to work a variety of days/times which may include weekends, holidays, and evenings to accommodate coverage for events.
Familiarity with various self-defense techniques helpful.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to pass background investigations.
