General Description of Position:
The primary role of the Greenhouse Technician will be to oversee all production phases of the greenhouse located on the Fort Wayne Campus.
Major Responsibilities:
Maintenance of all equipment in Greenhouse/Aquaculture area
Create list of needed supplies, provide to Ag Chair once a month on pre-scheduled date set with the chair
Plant, harvest, and water all plants in Greenhouse
Write and apply fertilizer and/or pest control prescriptions for all plants in Greenhouse
Create growing cycle plans/calendars that meet the college’s goals and demands (for the agriculture and culinary programs)
Give input on key decisions and/or will be asked and to make key decisions based on their expertise
Provide expert opinion on specific plants, growth, etc. in the Greenhouse
Provide daily care and maintenance for Aquaponics/Aquaculture units.
Provide tours for visitors to the greenhouse when deemed appropriate. Must be knowledgeable on all growing systems and functions of the greenhouse and aquaculture equipment.
Assist in preparation for classes using the equipment and greenhouse space (ability to work with program chair and adjuncts in planning for classes in the greenhouse)
Provide ideas and assistance in potential collaboration with community partners wishing to purchase items from the greenhouse (Campus culinary program? farmers market? Local restaurant? Etc)
Keep Greenhouse and surrounding areas clean and presentable at all times

Minimum Qualifications:
High School graduate or equivalent
Experience with growing a variety of plants hydroponically using different growing systems
Experience with aquaponics systems and types of fish to produce; fish care
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to communicate with faculty, staff, students, and the public
Ability to work unsupervised & manage time wisely
Problem solver
Strong team player
Strong organizational ability
Computer skills including Microsoft Office
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two to five years in hydroponics and/or aquaponics preferred
Other Requirements:

Work Hours:
Hours expected to be on Campus 4 days per week with flexibility of hours/dates for special events on campus. Weekend hours may be required. Potential overtime may be permitted with appropriate approval and when deemed necessary.
